Local events: the small ones too, not only the ticketed.

Jazz in a bar on Fridays, an open mic, a night market, a temple festival: the small events nobody lists in one place. feedql reads the pages and calendars that publish them as data, not as text, and answers by place and day. Below is a real channel.

Ask near:"Kandy" 30km bucket:events on:2026-11-14 and get the events of that day within 30 km of Kandy, each with its time, its venue or town, and the link to the page that announced it. The day, the time and the place are what the source states (schema.org Event or an iCalendar feed); no model guesses them.

What does it look like right now?

This list is the newest items of a read-only channel owned by the feedql house account. It follows a handful of event pages: eventhappens.lk and islandlive.org for Sri Lanka, the Moab Sun community calendar, funcheap and Luma for San Francisco, a comedy club and a music venue, a hotel bar in Flagstaff, and a Las Vegas calendar. The list is read on the server when you open the page and kept for ten minutes.

places on: an event gets the town or the venue point its source states
Sources
venue pages, listings and calendars that publish schema.org Event or iCalendar; found by search and OpenStreetMap when the topic has discovery on (interests such as jazz, open mic, night market)

How is it built?

  • Structured extraction. A page with schema.org Event data, or an .ics calendar, becomes items with a day, a clock time, a venue and a place. A weekly rule ("every Friday") gives each Friday. A page that is read again each day until its event has passed, so a cancellation or a move reaches the item. Nothing is guessed by a model, so the same page gives the same answer every time.
  • Places. An event carries the venue's point when the source gives one, otherwise its town, looked up in a gazetteer. A bar is not geocoded by its name, so near: finds it by its town.
  • Recurring discovery. A topic with a place in its filter can keep looking for sources by itself, for the interests you write (jazz, open mic, night market, temple festival): web search for "interest + place", plus the venues OpenStreetMap lists near the town, read through the usual quality gate. A few pairs a day, a daily cost cap, and a pair that finds nothing twice stops.
  • Where the sources come from. We measured them city by city. Moab, Colombo, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Flagstaff publish enough machine-readable events; Tbilisi and Batumi do so mostly through Telegram channels; Kandy, Ella and Kazbegi publish very little online.

What does it not do?

  • It does not find every event. A small bar that announces on a poster or on Instagram alone is not here: only public pages and calendars are read, and we do not read Instagram or Facebook.
  • Few venues publish structured data. In our sample of about 290 venue websites, only 4 did. Most small-event data comes from listing sites and community calendars, not from the venues themselves.
  • Some places are thin. Kandy had about five events in two weeks, Ella and Kazbegi none we could find.
  • Times follow the source. A time printed without a zone is read in the zone of the place; if a site prints it wrongly, the item is wrong with it. The original page is always linked.
Does it find events by itself?

Only for topics where you switch on recurring discovery and say what you are interested in. It searches the web and OpenStreetMap for venues and their event pages, reads each with the same quality gate as any source, and adds the ones that pass. A pair of interest and place that finds nothing twice stops.

Why is a date I see different from the page?

The day is the day in the venue's own time zone, taken from the page. If a page prints a time with no zone, feedql reads it in the zone of the event's country. Open the original link to check.

Can I get events for a route, not one town?

Yes: along:"Colombo","Kandy","Ella" 15km bucket:events during:2026-11-14..2026-11-20 returns the events within 15 km of the line between the stops on those days.

What does it cost?

Reading structured events costs no model calls. Recurring discovery uses two small model calls per interest and place and stops at 0.30 USD a day for a topic.
